City Island Yacht Club proudly supports athletic sailing up to the Olympic level. CIYC Olympic Team sailors represent the club at regattas all around the world. To support our athletes on this challenging journey, our Junior Sailing Director Ira Biegeleisen provides extensive guidance in campaign management. Thanks to a few very generous members and partners, we are also proud to support our athletes with equipment and monetary contributions to make their job a little easier.
City Island Yacht Club is proud to have an active team of young racers competing in regattas in and around New York. We support our particularly ambitious and competitive sailors on their path through youth sailing in any form we can. The athletes receive general advice and guidance by Program Director Ira Biegeleisen, and further support by a carefully selected team of highly qualified staff. We also supply our sailors with equipment and boats to allow sailors from all socioeconomic backgrounds to compete on our team. This program is an ideal step on any young sailor’s path to college sailing and an international career in sailing.
City Island Yacht Club has a big group of young sailors keen to learn the basics of sailing. They learn how to safely operate a sailboat on their own, the science behind it, and how to work in a team. The primary goal here is for the children to have fun and be comfortable around the ocean. If children are ambitious, we train them in the fundamentals of racing and prepare them for their first regattas.
CIYC Junior Sailing is run by an international team of highly motivated professionals. Our director has a lifetime of experience, having run programs from California to New York. Our racing coaches have done both, competed on the world stage themselves, and coached world-class sailors. Our younger sailors are coached by a young, dynamic team of US Sailing certified counselors and closely supervised by our senior staff members (also US Sailing and Safe Sport certified).
