CIYC Junior Sailing was founded in 2018 as City Island Yacht Club’s athletic initiative to introduce children to the sport of sailing as well as the nature of the ocean. The program has since thrived and far exceeded these goals. We do not only offer to teach the fundamentals of sailing but offer a competitive program that introduces the children to the world of regatta sailing and supports their athletic ambitions up to the intercollegiate and Olympic levels.
Summercamp
CIYC Junior Sailing offers an annual Summer Camp for young sailors of all levels. No matter whether the child is a proficient racer or has never set foot on a boat, we have a suitable program. NO PRIOR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED!!! Get more information here.
All Year Program
The All Year Program offers spots for sailors (from all levels, including total beginners) who particularly enjoy the sport and is run similar to a conventional, competitive athletics team. We offer fundamental coaching to beginners as well as advanced racing coaching up to the Olympic level to the more experienced sailors. We, furthermore, frequently participate in competitions. Practice is usually scheduled for weekends and more intense clinics are scheduled for school breaks and holidays. More information can be found here.
College, Olympics, and Beyond
CIYC Junior Sailing proudly supports its athletes beyond merely teaching sailing. As part of our traditional Summer Camp and All Year Program, we enhance our children’s abilities in STEM, athletics, and teamwork. This does not only make them better sailors but prepares them for life. We furthermore teach our racing team on boats that are being used for varsity college sailing with the goal to prepare them for a successful career on the intercollegiate sailing circuit. We furthermore provide guidance in related decisions and are happy to connect coaches of our country’s top universities with our athletes and thus build a bridge for potential athletic recruitment. For particularly successful sailors, we also support a path towards international and professional sailing, including but not limited to big boat racing and the Olympic Summer Games.
