What’s so special about City Island Yacht Club?

City Island Yacht Club is member-run and committed to boats and their active use. While we have over a century of history behind us, CIYC is youthful and informal. We offer pleasing shore-side amenities—a lovely dining room with a fine steward and professional staff. Our expansive sunset-facing porch overlooks our large mooring field and the NYC skyline. There is ample space for dinghy and small craft stowage, showers and storage lockers. But what makes us special is our fleet (both power and sail). Our club is made up of dedicated skippers, crews and their families. Our nautical facilities make boat owning convenient, rewarding, and, by the way, affordable. Most of all, our members are helpful, friendly and from all walks of life, whether they are boat owners, Club Boaters or social members.

A very active racing and cruising community.

  • CIYC welcomes all types of boats.
  • Many of our sailors race each Wednesday evening from May through September in the annual Eastchester Bay Yacht Racing Association Wednesday night series and also the J/24 Fleet #61 summer series. These events attract dozens of boats not only from our club, but also from nearby harbors, the Kings Point Maritime Academy and SUNY Maritime Academy. The competition is serious but friendly. On a typical summer evening, as many as 50 boats will join in and then return to the club for a post-race dinner on the porch. It’s is a fine place on a hot mid-week summer evening to meet friends and talk sailing.
  • CIYC is also a very active member club in the Yacht Racing Association of Long Island Sound. Our racers are regulars at racing events competing on every level from novice to grand-prix.
  • CIYC hosts its own YRALIS sanctioned events, among them, the City Island Annual Distance Race, the ever-popular Women Skippers Race and the CIYC Day Race. These big races are intermixed with a number of club races such as our JAM (Jib And Main) series and our Sayers Series every September.
  • CIYC’s dedicated and organized cruisers join in weekend getaways to nearby harbors and longer trips. Raft-ups with club friends are a highlight of even the shortest trip.
  • For both racers and cruisers, Western Long Island Sound is among the most active boating grounds in the country. There is a full season of events including club cruises, venerable, world-class regattas, day races and distance races held within a short sail from our mooring field.
  • If you don’t own a boat, our unique Club Boat Program provides all the benefits of sailing and club membership without personal ownership.
  • We also present numerous seminars and educational programs for racing and cruising sailors by world-class experts.
  • Club owned Windsurfers are free to use by all members.

A great place to keep your boat close to home…

  • CIYC is situated on the wide, deep Eastchester Bay at the mouth of Long Island Sound within easy access to the excellent cruising grounds on the north and south shores as well as to New York Harbor via the East River.
  • Our mooring field is deep, sheltered, easily able to accommodate larger boats, and assiduously maintained.
  • Our launch service operates around the clock every day during the season.
  • Our spacious docks can accommodate boats with over nine-foot drafts.
  • A professional yard on the premises.
  • Boat hauling and off-season yard storage is available.
  • City Island itself, though only a half-hour drive from Midtown, is an utterly anomalous part of New York City that looks and feels like a salty working harbor in New England. Along City Island Avenue, there are two brand name sail lofts, four commercial marinas, one of which built more America’s Cup winners than any other single yacht yard, a custom canvas shop, a chandlery, engine-repair shops, and more seafood restaurants than any five-block stretch in New York City.
